Hi, I'm Lesley
I spent over twenty years consulting for major financial services organisations. Big programmes, big budgets, the sort of work that looks great on your CV but usually leaves you feeling exhausted.
But when Covid hit, my consulting work dried up almost overnight. At first, I was glad of the break. But as reality dawned that this wasn't going to be fixed in a couple of weeks, I started to panic.
We had just bought our dream house at the beach in Spain, and I didn't want to lose it after all of our hard work.
So I stopped waiting for things to resolve themselves and decided to take action.
How I got back on track
I launched a whole new business
I started with what I knew best. I created a project management course for people looking to move into project management or get their first job. Not just theory, but the practical 'how to actually do it in the real world' stuff.
Then I wrote a book along the same lines. I added career coaching, which I'd been doing anyway as part of my restructure consulting work, and things took off.
Once that was up and running and the consulting market started to pick up again, I created a new consulting offer I could deliver remotely.
None of what I did was based on new knowledge. It was the same expertise I already had, just packaged differently for a different audience.
Within 6 months, I was back on track financially, clearing around £10k a month without leaving my house...and the book went on to become an Amazon bestseller in three countries, which I still find quite unbelievable.
Do I know what I'm doing?
On paper, absolutely, but these 'credentials' are not the reason any of this works.

The thing I'm actually most proud of isn't even on that list. It's the number of women who have started a new adventure because they took a deep breath and started something new through She's The Consultant.

How I work
I'm not a guru or 'bro-marketer' type
I'm not selling something that I haven't done myself. And I'm not going to sell you some magic beans and tell you to quit your job and 'back yourself'.
Most of the women I work with are still employed, working this out carefully around a job they are good at but don't love. That's the sensible way to do it.
You keep the salary while you build the thing. You test whether people will pay before you need them to. You leave when the numbers say you can, not when a motivational post says you should.
Some women are dealing with redundancy and have a greater sense of urgency and we can support that approach too, with extra guidance and support.
The key is taking the best approach for you, depending on your circumstances and not falling for fake urgency or hype.
